Salim Karim is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Vancouver Police Foundation and recently served on the Night Patrol Gala committee.

On February 25, 2014, more than 1,200 guests were treated to a unique Night Patrol experience in support of essential policing services and community outreach programs at the sold-out Vancouver Police Foundation Night Patrol Gala held at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Premier Christy Clark, Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson and singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan joined VPD Chief Jim Chu, along with a list of the city’s most philanthropic and illustrious personalities.

Guests mingled at the silent auction and enjoyed an entertaining tactical demonstration including gunshots and a hostage takedown as emcee Chris Gailus, from Global BC News, was rushed off stage by a SWAT team. Highlights included a performance by Grammy award-winning singer Sarah McLachlan, who was inducted as an honorary member of the Vancouver Police Pipe Band.

The evening was co-chaired by Peter and Joanne Brown, and Ryan and Cindy Beedie, and raised over $2.3 million, including $892,000 in support of the new VPD Cadet Program. “We recognize the need for the public and private sector to partner with the police in providing this very necessary funding at a time when government budgets are under stress,” said VPF chair Peter Brown.
